If you want to transfer a domain name from one domain name registrar to another, you will have to go through a few safety steps. One of them is obtaining a unique EPP code from the current registrar – on the condition that you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the owner's mailbox and nobody else can obtain it. You need to give this code to the new domain name registrar, otherwise they won’t be able to initiate the transfer. The EPP authorization codes are case-sensitive and may contain digits or special characters such as dots or commas, which can be easily miswritten, so make sure you copy & paste the correct code. As an extra safety measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain may be changed on a regular basis. Certain domain name registrars refer to this code as a domain password, a domain secret or an Auth key as well.
